Course 5: The Reactive Dog Recipe

This course is very specific to reactive or aggressive dogs. Every puppy (and many dogs) need impulse control (our Course 4), but not every puppy or dog is reactive.

Your dog is reactive if he:

  • lunges on lead
  • barks while lunging
  • attempt to bite for no reason
  • goes berserk on lead

Do not let this behavior continue without intervening. Even if your dog starts to bite at your or your family’s ankles in the house.

Most reactive dogs can improve with the proper training.

Tango, the formerly reactive dog.

Fran got her Tango when he was 11 months old from a reputable breeder. The first day she had him, Tango tried to bite one of Fran’s friends. Hope could not touch Tango without him trying to bite her. He lunged at anything that moved.

But Fran and Hope turned Tango around with the Reactive Dog Recipe. You’ve seen pictures of Tango on this site. You know that Fran competed with Tango at the Master level in Rally and Agility. You may not want to compete with your dog, but you want him to stop biting and lunging.

If your dog has shown any signs of reactivity, you need the Reactive Dog Recipe.
